本书基于学生的认知规律和主要工作过程设计了8个单元，分别为Basic Mechanical Technology(机械技术基础)、Engineering Drawings(机械制图)、Metal Materials and Metal Forming（金属材料和金属成形）、Machining Operations and Turning Machines（加工操作与车削机床）、Hydraulic Machinery and Forging Equipment（液压机械和锻压设备）、Electronic Components and Circuit（电器元件与电路）、Numerical control(数控技术)、Mold Design and Manufacturing模具设计与制造。本书每一单元包括WARMING UP、LISTENING、READING、TALKING、WRITING和 REVIEWING六个模块，每个模块下设1-3个工作任务。
