Acupressuretherapyhasevolvedfromdianxue,whichisatraditionalChinesemartialarttechniqueofhittinganopponentataselectedacupointonthebody,soastomomentarilyblocktheflowofbloodandenergyandcauseunconsciousness.Basedonthesametheory,anacupressuretherapistskillfullypressesthesameacupointtopromotetheflowofbloodandenergyandhealaninjury.Thetherapyisadministeredbypercussing,pressingandYormassagingselectedacupointsandstimulation-linesofthebody.Itiseffectivefortreatingcommonillnessesandcomplicateddiseasessuchascerebralpalsyandpolio.Inclinicalapplication,thetherapyrequiresnodmgsorinstmments.Itissafe,easytoleam,andcanbepracticedalmostanywhere.片断:SectionVIndicationsandContraindicationsofAcupressureTherapyA.Indications1.Diseasesofthenervoussystem:Sequelaeofcerebralbirthinjuryandbraindiseases,trauma,partialparalysiscausedbyinjuryofthespinalcolumn,sequelaeofpoliomyelitis,multipleneuritis,arachnoidaladhesion,cerebralparalysis,facialpara-lysis,partialparalysisofplexusbrachialisnerve,partialinjuryofnervousmedians,nervusulnaris,nervusradialis,sciaticnerveandnervusperoneuscommunis.2.Diseasesofthespine:Cervicalvertebralsyndromes,stiffneck,torticollis,disorderofposteriorlumbarjoints,herniationofthethirdlumbarbonesyndromes,herniationofthelumbarintervertebraldisc,derangementofintervertebralarticula-tion.3.Diseasesofthejointsofthearmsandlegs.4.Othersymptoms:headache,toothache,hiccup,infantileindigestion,commoncold,bed-wetting,hypochondriasis,drooling,footandwristptosis.B.ContraindicationsThefollowingconditionsshouldnotbetreatedwithacupressuretherapy.1.Acutediseases,infectiousdiseases,acutestomachache,suppurativearthritis.2.Severeheartdiseases,tuberculosis,malignanttumors.3.Hemorrhagicdiseasessuchashemophiliaandpurpura.4.Severeskindiseases.SectionVIPreparationsPriortoTreatmentPriortotreatment,besidespreparingthecasehistory,makingnecessaryphysicalandlaboratoryexaminationsandgivingacorrectdiagnosis,thedoctorshouldindicatetothepatienttherelativelylongprocessoftreatmentandtheprospectsforrecoverysoastoenhancehisunderstanding,patienceandconfidenceandwinhisco-operationinthecourseoftreatment.Theclinicroomshouldbespacious,wellventilatedandilluminated.Theexami-nationtableshouldbeadjustedtoanappropriateheight.Necessaryinstrumentsincludingstethoscope,anglesquare,percussionhammer,tapemeasure,otoscope,ophthalmoscope,sphygmomanometre,tuningfork,andelectrictorchshouldbelaidout.Themanipulatorsshouldfrequentlytrimfingernailsbutwithoutoverdoingit,soasnottohurtthefinger-tipsornailgrooves,whichcanbeprotectedbyadhesiveplasterifnecessary.SectionVIIPointsofAttentioninClinicalPractice1.OnthebasisofcasehistoryandlabreportssuchasEMGs,cardiograms.somatosensoryevokedpotentialcharts,makeanoverallanalysisoftheillnessandthepatient'sconditionbeforedecidingontheacupointsandstimulation-linesforeachindividualpatient.Thisisespeciallyimportantinthefollowingcases:debilitatedchildren,starvingoroverfedpeople,patientsontheirfirstvisitandwomenduringmenstruation.Thetherapyshouldnotbepractisedonpatientsundertheinfluenceofliquororinastateofphysicalexhaustion.Deformitiesshouldbetreatedwithgreatpatience.2.Startthemanipulationslightly,graduailyincreaseinintensityandwindupwithlightmovements.Specialcareshouldbetakentoavoidinjuringjointcapsules.tendonsandbones.3.Thepatientsusuallyhavesuchsensationsassoreness,numbness,warmth,spasmanddistensionintheareaofmanipulation.Skinflushmayoccur;sometimesthepatientsmaysweatorexperiencefever.Subcutaneousbleedingmayoccurinthebeginning,butwillgraduaUydisappearinaweek.Noneofthesereactionsrequireanyspecialtreatment.Incaseofseverereactionssuchasdizziness,nausea,vomiting,lossofcolourorshock,themanipulationshouldbestoppedandrelaxationtechniquesappliedimme-diately,suchasclappingthepatientonthehead,backor
